At the sculpture courts, we discuss how these masterworks were originally intended for gardens of now-lost châteaux.

    The Orsay Museum

    3 Hours

    The Orsay Museum houses one of the most superb collections of 19th and early 20th century art in the world. Impressionist paintings of gardens is the focus of our visit, providing a thoughtful overview of the masterworks by Edouard Manet, Edgar Degas, and Claude Monet.

    Intimate Impressionism: the Orangerie & Marmottan Museums

    4 Hours

    Off the beaten path, our tour begins at the Orangerie Museum located in the Tuileries gardens where you discover eight decorative panels of waterlilies that Monet conceived for this venue. We also visit the museum’s collections of 19th and 20th century art, including works by Renoir, Cézanne and Picasso.  We then take private transport to the Marmottan museum where you can learn about Monet’s works along with those of Berthe Morisot in an intimate house museum that includes nineteenth century paintings and decorative arts.

    The Hôtel de la Marine & Tuileries Gardens

    3 Hours

    Closed to the public for over 225 years, this ‘palace within the city’ is a unique monument located at the Place de la Concorde. Commissioned by Louis XV, the famed neoclassical architect Jacques Ange Gabriel conceived it as a design house to showcase French furniture and decorative arts. A 4 day jewel heist occurred here during the French Revolution.

    This tour includes a stroll through the Place de la Concorde and the Tuileries Gardens.

    The Carnavalet Museum

    The Carnavalet Museum is dedicated to the history of Paris. With collections from the Middle Ages to the 20th century, this tour focuses on the restored period rooms to better understand the city’s heritage. We can create a thematic tour about the French Revolution upon request

    The Hunting and Nature Museum

    Our visit to the Museum of Hunting and Nature is integrated to our walking tour of the Marais. Beginning at the Place des Vosges, we stroll the historic district looking at architecture and hidden gardens. We then visit this private museum dedicated to the history of the hunt, explaining the relationships between humans and the natural environment through the traditions and practices of hunting. Creative and eclectic, this museum creates an exceptional synergy comparing taxidermied animals to historic interiors, paintings, and modern installations. This tour is adapted to families with younger children.

    The Cognacq-Jay Museum

    3 Hours

    Our visit to the Cognacq-Jay Museum, a house museum in the former Hôtel Denon, is integrated to our walking tour of the Marais. Beginning at the Place des Vosges, we stroll the historic district learning about French architecture. We step into the past when we enter this museum dedicated to eighteenth century decorative arts portraits and furniture. The tour recounts the story of Monsieur and Madame Cognac-Jay, who founded the Samaritaine department store and this collection.

    The Rodin Museum

    3 Hours

    Auguste Rodin is one of the most celebrated modern sculptors who lived and worked in an 18th century mansion, called the Hôtel Biron. The museum showcases Rodin’s sculptures in stone, bronze and plaster, as well as paintings and drawings, including works by his contemporaries Monet and Van Gogh. We devote special attention to how Rodin placed his sculptures, such as the Gates of Hell and The Thinker in the garden. Renovated by landscape architect Jacques Sgard, the garden features over 100 varieties of roses.

    The Nissim de Camondo Museum

    3 Hours

    The Nissim de Camondo Museum is a house museum dedicated to 18th century art and interior decoration. Founded by the Jewish collector Moise de Camondo, and named in honor of his son Nissim, who died in WWI, Moise amassed an exceptional collection of decorative arts and paintings dating from the Louis XVI period. Camondo also fitted his house with modern accommodations—a stupendous bathroom and kitchen—affording a view of 19th-century luxury.
